About the data
I collect articles from 13 public-broadcaster outlets (ARD's regional stations, ZDF, Deutschlandfunk, and Deutsche Welle) and from 21 party press channels every five minutes. A language model reads each sentence and decides whether it reports a politician's statement and who made it. It then codes whom the statement is about, which issue it concerns, and the speaker's stance.
Stance runs from −1 (critical) to +1 (supportive). A quote that several outlets carry counts once, and I merge a speaker's sentences on one subject into one statement per day, so that long interviews do not dominate. Before-and-after comparisons use the five days before and after the elections of 20 September.
The charts show news media; party press releases can be added above. Days before 7 September come from archive searches and are thinner. I have not yet checked the coding against human coders, so the charts show trends rather than exact levels. The model (Jev 1.13), the coding scheme, and my checks are described in the docs folder of the repository.
